Francis A. "Franny" Lucius, 91, of New Riegel, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.
He was born on December 3, 1931, to Frank and Clara (Reinhart) Lucius. Just celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary, he married Dolores "Susie" Schultz on June 13, 1953.
Survivors include his wife, Susie Lucius of New Riegel; son, Robert (Theresa) Lucius of Tiffin; daughters, Linda (Phil) Hohler of Sandusky and Sandra (Richard) Russell of Holland; daughter-in-law, Cindy Lucius of Tiffin; sisters, Alma (Marion) Lucius of New Riegel, and Marjorie Sowers of Sycamore; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Lucius; brothers, Bernard Lucius, Louis Lucius, Paul Lucius, and Gerald Lucius; and sisters, Dorothy Clouse, Lucille Smith and Eileen Kurtz.
Franny was a 1950 graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School and received his degree in business from Tiffin University. He served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged after serving four years, mostly in Great Falls, Montana. Franny worked as plant superintendent at Sterling Abrasives for 38 years, Alvada Construction, and measured fields throughout Seneca County for the Agricultural Soil Conservation Service (ASCS). He served as the New Riegel Village treasurer in 1961, was a volunteer New Riegel EMT, member of All Saints Parish (formerly St. Boniface Catholic Church), where he served as a councilman, and was a member of the New Riegel American Legion Post 354.
Franny enjoyed woodworking, making toys, big dollhouses and barns for his grandchildren, arrowhead hunting, reading, watching the weather, taking care of animals, babysitting for his neighbor's dog, Snuggles, liked ice cream and root beer floats, always making sure everyone had something to drink and loved babies. He also enjoyed helping at the Church festivals and teaching CCD.
His Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 19, 2023 at All Saints Parish, New Riegel, with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. The Mass will be livestreamed at www.allsaints-parish.com. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors being conducted by the New Riegel American Legion.
Friends may visit with the family from 1-4:00 P. M. on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 and on Monday at Church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of Mass.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Hospice Care, All Saints Parish or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
