Freda L. France, 96, of Tiffin, passed away Friday morning, December 23, 2011 at the Elmwood at the Shawhan, Tiffin.
She was born in Chatfield, Ohio on July 10, 1915, to Jesse M. and Trenah (Johnson) Lust. On June 21, 1941, she married Carole J. France and he preceded her in death on March 12, 1964.
Surviving are one son, James (Marylyn) France of Las Vegas, NV; one daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Andrew J.) Brose of Sycamore, OH; grandchildren, Col. Derek C. (Amanda) France of Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, Alaska; Renee M. (Molly Pfaffs) France of Portland, OR, Christopher Brose of Tiffin, OH, Craig (Angela) Brose of Powell, OH and Scott (Kari) Brose of Sycamore, OH; and great-grandchildren, Erin, Mattie and Clara France, Jessica and Joshua Brose, Nicole Brose, and Ellie and Beckett France.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Carole; brother, Nevin J. Lust; and sister, Ruth Kell.
Freda graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School, attended Heidelberg College and graduated from Miami University. She was a second grade teacher at C.A. Krout Elementary School, retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was also a member of Penthouse Club, Pan-Hellenio Council, Mohawk Golf and Country Club, Friends of the Library and belonged to several bridge clubs. Freda volunteered for many years at Mercy Hospital and Betty Jane Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral mass will be Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to mass.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, December 29, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian Wake service will begin at 8:00.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Community Hospice Care or to a charity of the donor's choice.
