Frederick J. Amann, 81, of Tiffin, died Thursday evening, August 20, 2009, at St. Francis Home.
June 27, 1928, he was born in Tiffin to the late Edward F. and Loretta A. (Lutz) Amann. September 28, 1957, he married Eleanor 'Ellie' Millott in Sandusky.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ellie, a son, David J. (Terri) Amann of Findlay, three daughters, Karen Haugh, Mary Beth (Joe) Irving both of Tiffin, and Dianne (Darren) Clemente of North Royalton, a brother, William A. Amann of Leipsic, eleven grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Fred was a 1946 graduate of Calvert High School and attended St. Joseph College in Indiana. He was one of the first in Tiffin to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, AMVETS Post 48, and a K of C Member of the 3rd and 4th Degree. He retired in 1987 from IBM after 32 years as a resident field engineer. Fred proudly served in the US Air Force from 1950-1954. Fred enjoyed playing golf and woodworking. For over 50 years, Fred enjoyed playing Bridge and socializing with close friends in a couples group.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 AM, Monday, August 24, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Knights of Columbus 4th Degree will stand honor guard. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Military Graveside services conducted by the United Veteran's Council.
Friends may visit with the family 10:00 - 11:15 AM, Monday, August 24, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Community Hospice Care, St. Francis Home, St. Joseph Catholic Church, or Calvert High School.
