Obituary

Gerald J. Hoepf, 89, of rural Tiffin, passed away Sunday evening, July 28, 2013 in his home.

He was born on May 27, 1924, in Wyandot County, the eldest son of Leo and Eulalia (Wenzinger) Hoepf. He married Ruth Adeline Phelps on June 18, 1949, in St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; 3 sons, Thomas (Marilynn) Hoepf of Knightstown, IN, Jeffrey (Debbie) Hoepf, and Patrick (Rae Lyn), both of rural Tiffin; 6 grandchildren, Malea (Tom) Young of Louisville, KY, Jeremy (Sarah) Hoepf of Grand View Heights, Melanie, Maria, Regina and Rebecca Hoepf; 2 great grandchildren, Adeline Ruth and Jonah James; 4 step-grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; 5 brothers, Walter (Mary) Hoepf of Republic; Arthur (Sally) Hoepf of Mt Gilead, Michael (Diane) Hoepf and Cletus (Patricia) Hoepf, both of Bucyrus, and Dale (Jo Ann) Hoepf, of New Riegel; 5 sisters, Ruth Fox of Bloomville, Mary Ellen (Cyril) Gosche of New Riegel, Arlene Holman of Fostoria, and Dorothy (Jack) Clutter and Patricia (Tony) Springman, both of Bucyrus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert; and daughter-in-law, Elaine.

Gerald attended Calvert High School and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a lifetime farmer with the spring 2013 being the first year he was not on his tractor. His love was his faith and his family. He enjoyed watching his crops grow, music and his Cleveland Indians. He was gifted in woodworking where he handcrafted beautiful desks for each of his grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, August 2, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass.

Friends may visit with the family from 2-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian Wake Service will begin at 1:30 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Calvert Catholic Schools or Community Hospice Care.
