Gerald "Gary" William Barlekamp, 77, of Tiffin, Ohio, died Thursday morning, June 2, 2011 at Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

He was born August 20, 1933 in Tiffin to William A. Barlekamp and Ruth Irene (Blue) Williams. He married Carolyn Sue Meier on March 13, 1953 and she died on December 15, 2002.

Survivors include one son, Dennis Barlekamp and one daughter, Patricia Theis of Tiffin; 3 grandchildren, James and Brent Mills, Sarah Barlekamp; one great-grandchild, Lucas M. Mills; one step-brother, David Williams of Chicago, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Gary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a 1951 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 35 years. He started as a carrier in Tiffin and later became the Postmaster in Fremont, Paulding, and Cambridge. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, golfing, and traveling with his wife, Carolyn. Gary was a member of the Tiffin Moose Lodge # 846, Am Vets Post #48, American Legion Post # 169, and VFW Post #2858.

A Memorial Mass will be Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

There will be no visitation.
