Obituary

Gilbert "Gil" W. Ardner, 86, passed away Thursday morning, November 3, 2011 at his residence.

On July 18, 1925, in Tiffin, Ohio, he was born to Edward M. & Rose S. (Yost) Ardner. He married Marguerite C. Gillig on August 6, 1949 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin.

Survivors include his wife, Marguerite; 7 sons, Richard (Dorene) Ardner, Glenn (Anne) Ardner, Don (Rose) Ardner, Roger (Cindy) Ardner and Tim (Lynn) Ardner all of Tiffin, James (Linda) Ardner of Fremont, OH and John (Terry) Ardner of Fostoria, OH; daughters; Mary (Jerry) Snyder of Tiffin, Sharon (Ozell) Eckford of Fremont, OH and Trish Ardner of Savannah, GA; brother, Lester (Lois) Ardner of Sandusky, OH; sister, Loretta Mohr of Fremont, OH; 29 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Francis N. Ardner and Robert Ardner; sisters, Vi Ardner, Emma Rose Ardner, Luella Ardner and Margaret Brandt; and one great grandchild, Hayliegh Wescott.

Gil graduated in 1944 from Scipio Republic High School. He was a light tank driver serving in WWII from 1944 to 1946. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and retired in 1985 as a machinist at National Machinery. Gil was a member of the American Legion Post 354 in New Riegel and the Quarter Century Club. He was also a member of the FFA. He enjoyed playing cards, campouts with his family, cooking and baking, woodworking and hunting. At the age of 83, Gil shot a deer with a crossbow. He loved spending time with his family.

A mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the New Riegel American Legion.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday, November 7, 2011 from 2-8:00 P.M. at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419)447-2424. A Christian Wake service will begin at 1:30 P.M. Members of the National Machinery Quarter Century Club will meet in body at 7:00 P.M.
