IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Glen R.
Heminger
December 3, 1923 – July 24, 2009
Glen R. Heminger, 85, beloved father and grandfather, passed away Friday, July 24, 2009 at St. Francis Home in Tiffin, where he resided for the last year and a half.
On December 3, 1923 he was born to Clifford and Fern (Wallace) Heminger, where he grew-up in the Old Fort/Vanlue area. On August 27, 1946 he married the love of his life, Doris Hoover in St. Andrew Catholic Church in Liberty Township. She preceded him in death on December 21, 1992.
Survivors include his children, Denise (Doug) Burkin of Clyde, Gary (Jane) Heminger of Findlay, Debra (Jeff) Banks of Anna, Gregg (Julie) Heminger and Grant (Heidi) Heminger, both of Beavercreek, Darla (Bob) Burns and Deana (Jerry) Reedy, both of Tiffin; eighteen grandchildren, Melea, Bradley, Heather, Jessica, Kevin, Michelle, Justin, Patrick, Wesley, Tony, Morgan, Daniel, Jonathan, Allison, Nathan, Ashley, Andrew, and Nicholas; nine great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death is his wife, his parents, an infant daughter Diane, a grandson, Jason Banks, and two brothers, Jerry and Wallace.
Glen graduated from Old Fort High School in 1942 and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and Korean War. He was part of the China-Burma-India Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1945, and returned back to the Tiffin area. After marriage to Doris, Glen worked a variety of jobs before doing another patriotic duty in the Korean War. Glen spent 18 months in Korea, returning back home in 1951. After returning home from Korea, Glen and Doris began their family and were the parents of eight children. He was also a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
In his younger days he enjoyed playing baseball and fast-pitch softball. Many summer nights were spent with Glen playing the game he loved, while Doris and the kids watched. Glen loved watching the Cleveland Indians and rarely missed a game, either on radio or television. His children have many fond memories of playing backyard football with him and other activities that they enjoyed together.
Glen was loved by all, and will be remembered as a devoted husband and family man. He was never without a compliment for those he came in contact with. He was a hard-worker, and toiled many hours to support his family. He worked for several years in Findlay as the manager of Britt's Furniture. After the store closed in 1982, he worked for several other furniture stores, before retiring from Ewald's in Tiffin, at the age of 79. His strength and perseverance in battling multiple illnesses over the last several years have been an inspiration not only to his children but to all those who knew him well. Even when illness made it impossible for him to go to Frisch's for tea, Dad never complained.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Glen's life and his reunion with Doris, at 2pm-8pm, Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am, Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church Rev. Gary Walters officiating. The rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, with Military Graveside Services provided by the United Veterans Council.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Senior Ministries or to St. Mary Catholic Church.
