Glenn A. Croy, 95, of Tiffin, passed away, Wednesday evening, July 11, 2012, at St. Francis Home.
He was born on November 17, 1916, in Dola, Ohio, to James H. and Clara (Hoffman) Croy. On April 21, 1938, in Kenton, Ohio, he married Clara Friedel and she passed away on October 20, 2000.
Survivors include two sons, Gary L. (Adelene) Croy of Berea, Ohio and James E. (Martha) Croy of Westerville, Ohio; one brother, Charles H. Croy of Lima, Ohio; one sister, Dorothy Wilson of Dola, Ohio; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.
Preceding him in death are his parents; and sister, Ruth Obenour.
Glenn attended Tiffin University and Ohio University banking school in Athens, Ohio and served in the United States Army during World War II. He retired in 1981, after 23 years, as assistant vice president of the former Tiffin Savings Bank. He was a professional musician, playing guitar in several Big Bands, including; Mack Finch Orchestra in Kenton, Ohio, Charlie Haaser Band at Rainbow Garden in Fremont, Ohio, Erv Hughs Band in Gibsonburg, Ohio and Decker Red Shirts at Meadowbrook Park in Bascom, Ohio. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, volunteered his time there and was an elder. He was active in Kiwanis Club for 44 years and received the Member of the Year Award in 1999; volunteering for many worthy causes. Glenn also enjoyed traveling and boating as a member of the United States Power Squadron.
His funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 20, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Katie Treadway officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Friends may visit with the family from 6-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 and on Friday, July 20, 2012, from 1-2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church, 96, S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Home.
