Gordon Joseph 'Scorch' Granata, 80, of Tiffin, died Monday morning, September 22, 2008, at his home.
On January 1, 1928, he was born in Tiffin to Carmello and Anna (Mucciacito) Granata. On August 11, 1951, he married Marjorie J. Deppen in St. Mary Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marjorie, a son, Tim (Ulrike) Granata of Columbus, three daughters, Julie (Daryl) Shellhouse of Sycamore, Jennifer (Rod) Althaus of Port Clinton, Jean (Jerry Esparza) Hayes of Tiffin, a step-brother, Tony Mucciacito of CA, 5 grandchildren, Elke Granata, Stephanie Shellhouse, Kayla and Kelly Althaus, Dominic Hayes and a great-granddughter, Olivia Althaus.
Preceding him in death along with his parents is a brother, Tony Pizzino, a sister, Sally McGinnis, and a step-brother Frank Mucciacito.
Gordon was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and proudly served in the Navy for over 7 years and the National Guard and Army Reserves for 16 years. He retired in 1991, after working over 39 years at Clyde Whirlpool and working early on at Sears & Roebuck and Firestone. Scorch repaired appliances even after retiring, was a past member of AmVets and the Eagles in Clyde. He owned a PT plane and loved to fly and repair planes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 27, 2008 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters and Rev. Michael Dandurand con-celebrating. A Rosary will be prayed 15 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery with Military Graveside services conducted by the United Veteran's Council.
Friends may visit with the family 1-4 and 6-8 PM, Friday, September 26, 2008 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH, 44883, 419-447-2424. A Christian wake service will be 12:45 PM.
Memorial contributions can be made to Community Hospice Care or a charity of the donor's choice.
