Harold W. 'Jake' Swartzmiller, 85, of Tiffin, died Monday afternoon, May 19, 2008, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.
On March 16, 1923, he was born in Seneca County to Harry J. and Margaret (Brickner) Swartzmiller. On October 1, 1955, he married Helen R. Anderson in St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Helen, son, Steve (Lynette) Swartzmiller, both of Tiffin, daughter, Brenda (Mike) Soto of Westerville, two sisters, Mildred Lautermilch of Tiffin, LaDonna Dickman of Fremont, and 4 grandchildren, Dustin Swartzmiller, Aaron Soto, Emily Swartzmiller and Gabriela Soto.
Preceding him in death along with his parents are three brothers, Claire J., Walter and Richard Swartzmiller, a sister, Pauline Baker and 3 infant sisters.
Jake proudly served in the US Army Air Corp. from 1943-1945, during WWII. He was a life member of Knights of Columbus #608 and a past member of American Legion Post 169. He was a fan of The Ohio State University and the Cleveland Indians and Browns. He retired from Clyde Whirlpool in 1986, after 24 years and liked to bowl, golf, lake fish and play cards.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Friday, May 23, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 15 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will be at a later date.
Friends may visit with the family 4-8 PM, Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH, 44883, 419-447-2424.
