Obituary

Harold W. Welter, 85, of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday evening, January 10, 2012, in the Emergency Room at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.

On March 17, 1926, he was born in Seneca County to Edward and Carmen (Prindle) Welter. On June 25, 1983, he married Norma Steyer Brickner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tiffin.

Survivors include his wife, and children from a previous marriage including five sons; Harold (Alice) Welter II of Texas, Larry Welter of Willard, Edward (Terri) Welter of Illinois, Robert (Mary Jo) Welter of McCutchenville, Richard (Chris) Welter of Tiffin; three daughters, Janet (William) Lackey of Texas, Joyce (Edward) Ziegler, Susan Mesnard, both of Bloomville; two step-sons, Roger (Alice) Brickner of Findlay, Ivan Brickner of Texas; two stepdaughters, Connie (Greg) Frisch of Bellevue, and Nadine Washabau of Columbus; a brother, Eugene (Pat) Welter of Wisconsin; and two sisters, Olive Rinker of New Mexico and Frances Heilman of Tiffin, 22 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brother, Marion Welter; and sister, Dorothy Elchert.

Harold graduated from Calvert High School in 1944 and he was a retired farmer from Bloom Township and a Dekalb corn dealer for 24 years. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II as Staff Sergeant with Second Armor Division in Europe as a tank and truck mechanic and later as a platoon sergeant and instructor at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. He was past commander and 50 year member of the American Legion, also past master and 50 year member of Bloom Community Grange, member of VFW Post 2858 and Farm Bureau. He traveled to Jamaica, Italy, Germany, France, Holland, Belgium, Ireland, Luxemburg, Mexico, all 50 states and several Provinces of Canada.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at All Saints Parish in New Riegel, Ohio with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, New Riegel with Military Honors conducted by the New Riegel American Legion Post 354.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, January 13, 2012 from 2-4:00 P.M. and 6-8:00 P.M. at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian Wake service will begin at 7:45 P.M. and the New Riegel American Legion Post 354 will do a walk through at 7:30 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Care, Calvert Catholic Schools, Masses or a charity of the donor's choice.
