Obituary

Helen Agnes Sherman, 86, of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at her residence.

She was born on February 2, 1926, in Seneca County, Ohio, to Dominic and Theodora (Patuto) Vadala. On November 26, 1949, she married Dwight V. Sherman and he preceded her in death on August 8, 2003.

Survivors include three daughters, Sister Sandra Sherman, OSU of Toledo, Dena (Steve) Schreiner of Tiffin, and Yolanda (Andrew) Tanner of Allen, Texas; eight grandchildren; Marie (Brian) Smith and Mary Schreiner of Tiffin, Paul Schreiner of Cincinnati, Renee' (Raymond) Williams of Waterville, Ohio; John, Leah, Colin, and Samantha Tanner all of Allen, Texas; and two great grandchildren, Aiden and Molly Smith, of Tiffin, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Mary Mission, Carmella Cordovado, Theresa Stofer, Angela Hall and Nina Turner; one brother, Xavier (Sam) Vadala; her devoted husband, Dwight Sherman; and most recently, great-grandson, Faustinus Marie Williams, miscarried at 12 weeks.

Helen was a member of Tiffin St. Mary Catholic Church. She was an associate of the Ursuline Sisters of Toledo and a member of the Arch Confraternity of the Guard of Honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for the Visitation Sisters, and a weekly Adoration Guardian of the Holy Eucharist at Tiffin St. Joseph's Church.

A graduate of Columbian High School, Helen worked at the American Clay following graduation and during the time of Dwight's service in the United States Marine Corp. For most of her life, she was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed praying, cooking, working outdoors and spending time with her family. She also loved music and in her early years participated in and won dance contests with her brother, Sam.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11:30 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Rev. Michael Roemmele and Rev. Joseph Szybka co-celebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.

Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until the Rosary is prayed on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the church.

Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with the arrangements.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Ursuline Sisters of Toledo and the Visitation Monastery of Toledo.
