Jack Harold Payne, 71, of Tiffin, OH, died at 4:00 A.M. on Monday, July 8, 2013 at his home.
Jack was born on August 21, 1941, in Port Clinton, Ohio, eldest son of the late Orville Dennis and Irma Ruth Yoder Payne.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Susan Zeis Payne, whom he married September 1, 1962, at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, Port Clinton, Ohio; and by their son and daughter-in-law, John Lockwood Payne and Melissa Ann Crohen; and grandchildren, Jacob Lockwood and Benjamin Crohen Payne, Delaware, Ohio; and by son, Christopher Mark Payne, Tiffin. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Robert Earl and Terris Payne, Gypsum, Ohio and brother Thomas Allen Payne, Key West, FL. Nephew William Payne and his son Brandon and nephew Daniel Payne survive as well.
Jack attended Port Clinton City Schools, Iowa State University and was a graduate of Tiffin University in 1965, with an accounting degree. He began his business career with Deinzer, Pfeiffer and Company as an accountant that same year. He acquired the firm in 1968, which became Jack H. Payne & Associates, P.C., Inc., Certified Public Accountants. He retired in 2007. Jack was a member of Old Trinity Episcopal Church. He was also a member and past president of the Tiffin Jaycees and served as president of the Tiffin Chamber of Commerce. At the time of his death he was the president of the Tiffin-Seneca Library Board of Trustees and a trustee of the Tiffin-Seneca Library Foundation. He presently held the office of treasurer of the Humane Society of Seneca County Board, and was a long-time member of Tiffin Elks Lodge #94. An avid golfer, Jack was a member of Mohawk Golf and Country Club for more than forty-five years where he served as president and was club champion in 1989. He was also a past member of Oakmont Country Club, Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
At his request, there will be no funeral. Graveside services at Greenlawn Cemetery will be private with The Reverend John Reinheimer officiating. Friends may visit with the family at Mohawk Golf and Country Club, 4399 State Route 231, Tiffin, Ohio, on Saturday, July 13, 2013 from 1-4:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tiffin University-Orville D. & Irma Ruth Yoder Scholarship Fund; Tiffin-Seneca Library Foundation; Humane Society of Seneca County or Community Hospice Care of Tiffin.
