James F. Carter, 86, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday evening, January 5, 2012, at his home.
On January 27, 1925 in Tiffin, he was born to Verne and Elizabeth (Kovasckitz) Carter. He married Rose Ann Bour on October 8, 1947.
Survivors include his wife Rose Ann of 64 years; a son, Jeffrey Carter of Tiffin; daughters, Vicki Bravo of Atlanta, GA; Karen Ann Hill of Port Clinton, OH; Mary Rose Smith of Washington Courthouse, OH; Joline M. Gongwer and Cindy (Walter) Koch both of Tiffin and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bob Carter, an infant brother, granddaughter, Holly Gongwer and a grandson, Andrew Smith.
Jim was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a 1943 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. He was a second generation Firefighter for the City of Tiffin retiring as Captain in 1979 after 32 years and trained area volunteer firefighters for years. Jim also worked for Hoffmann Memorial Funeral Home for over 30 years. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved animals.
A private visitation and service will take place for the family. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
