James L. Comer, 87, of Tiffin, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012 at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center.

He was born on July 6, 1925, in Bascom, Ohio to Lewis W. and Rosa M. (Shiley) Comer. On July 26, 1947 he married Mildred Ranker and she preceded him in death.

Survivors include 5 sons, Terry (Marlene) Comer and Denny (Becky) Comer, both of Tiffin, Brad (Deborah) Comer of Findlay, Dan (Meredith) Comer of Asheville, NC, and Thomas (Sherryl) Comer of Strongsville; 2 brothers, Don (Jenny) Comer of Tiffin and Paul (Fran) Comer of Fostoria; special nephew, Jon Adams of Tiffin; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, 2 brothers, Melvin "Doc" Comer and infant brother, Doyle Comer; and 5 sisters, Esther Colvin, Thelma King, Evelyn Berrier, Vera Adams and Dorothy Comer.

Jim graduated from Hopewell London High School in 1943 and joined the United States Navy in 1943. He served until 1945 aboard the U.S.S. Swivel in Africa, Europe and Middle East during World War II. Jim was a member of the V.F.W. Post #2858 and the Knights of Columbus #608. He retired from the National Machinery on July 1, 1987, after 26 years, as a machinist and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes, but most of all, loved the Green Bay Packers.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at
St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery with Military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.

Friends may visit with the family from 2-4:00 P.M. and 6-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. Members of the National Machinery Quarter Century Club will meet in body at 7:00 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, Community Hospice Care or a local veteran's organization.
