James E. Long, 84, of Tiffin, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Mercy Health-St. Rita's Medical Center.

He was born on January 14, 1940, in Bascom, Ohio, to John and Ethel (Ritter) Long.  On June 26, 1996, he married Phyllis May Fields and she preceded him in death on July 29, 2022.

Survivors include his son, William "Jake" (Cherie) Long of Fostoria; daughters, Nancy (Rick) Carnicom of Fremont, Sharon (Roger) Melon of Tiffin and Brenda Marks of Fostoria; seven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; 1 grandchild; and 1 great grandchild.

Jim was a 1958 graduate of Bettsville High School.  After high school, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on March 22, 1961.  In 1994, he retired as a truck driver, after 30 years.  He helped his family farm and was a member of Bettsville American Legion Post 733 and Fostoria AmVets Post 69.

His funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.  Burial will follow in Pleasant Union Cemetery, Old Fort with Military Honors being conducted by the Fostoria United Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may visit with the family from 4-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the funeral home.
