James R. Ewald, 86, of Tiffin, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at St. Francis Home.

He was born on August 30, 1932, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Herman J. and Jane C. (Chamberlain) Ewald.  On June 26, 1954, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, he married Jane Dow.

Survivors include his wife, Jane of Tiffin; children, Joseph (Robbin) Ewald and Dan (Peggy) Ewald, both of Tiffin; Kathryn (Scott) Pfoff of Houston, TX, Mary (Mike) Stover of Tiffin and Eric (Cara) Ewald of Port Charlotte, FL; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Richard J. Ewald.

Jim graduated valedictorian from Tiffin Calvert High School in 1950 and with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from Notre Dame in 1954.  He served in the United States Army for two years.  Jim is the 3rd generation co-owner of Ewald Furniture, which opened up on January 1, 1900.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #608, Serra Club of Tiffin, AmVets Post 48, Ohio Horsemen's Association, U.S. Trotting Association and past board member of the Calvert Foundation, St. Joseph Catholic School Board and St. Francis Home Advisory Board.

His funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at St. Francis Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Murd officiating.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 4-7:00 P.M. on Friday, June 28, 2019 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 and from 9:00 A.M. until the time of Mass on Saturday at St. Francis Home Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvert Catholic Schools Educational Foundation, St. Francis Home or to Heartland Hospice.
