James “Jim” Archie Somers, 91, of Tiffin, passed away on Friday, May 01, 2026, at Autumnwood Care Center.
He was born on November 02, 1934, in Republic, Ohio, to Franklin and Freida (Foley) Somers. On February 11, 1956, he married Barbara Lutz and she preceded him in death.
He is survived by his sons, Steven (Lisa) Somers, Michael (Martha) Somers and Kevin (Catherine) Somers, all of Tiffin; daughters, Cynthia (Dennis) Baugher, Diane (Gregg Theis) Somers-August and Susan (Tony) Distel, all of Tiffin and Julie (Jeff) Webel of Kansas City, KS; 21 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, and sister, Patricia Fries.
Jim graduated from Republic High School in 1952 and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He worked at National Machinery for 45 years as a foreman and 25 of those years he was a supervisor. He served on the city council for 10 years and wrote many articles/editorials to the newspaper. Jim liked to do a bit of everything; carpentry, mechanical work, walking his dog and gardening.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 06, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew Rader officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 30 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 4-7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 05, 2026, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or to the Barbara N. Somers Scholarship Fund, C/O Tiffin Charitable Foundation.
