James F. "Jim" Zimmerman, 85, of Tiffin, passed away Monday afternoon, December 3, 2012 at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.
He was born on October 23, 1927 in Hammond, IN, to Albert J. and Margaret (Fry) Zimmerman. On August 16, 1952, in St. Peters Catholic Church in Mansfield, he married Birdie Fulmer.
Survivors include his wife; Birdie; 2 sons, James (Sheila) Zimmerman of Winchester, IN and Terence (Anne) Zimmerman of Tiffin; 5 daughters, Mary Deidrick of Napoleon, Susan (Christopher) Ranieri of Tiffin, Ann (Jonathon) Scott of Benton, Jane (Timothy) Rose of Oroville, California and Teresa Albainy of West Lake; 1 sister, Sister Margaret Ann Zimmerman, O.S.F. of Joliet, IL; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; 2 brothers, Rev. Albert Zimmerman and Rev. Thomas Zimmerman; infant sister, Jane Zimmerman; son-in-law, Anthony Albainy; granddaughters, Rebecca Ranieri and Kristina Deidrick; and great grandson, London Ritzler.
Jim graduated in 1945 from Catholic Central High School in Hammond, IN and moved to Tiffin in 1957 from the Mansfield area. He owned Western Auto from 1957 to 1965, worked at Decker's Furniture from 1965 to 1967 and then at Sears and Roebuck Co. for 25 years; retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and also volunteered there; cleaning, ushering; helping with funeral lunches, working at the festival and helping at BINGO for 13 years. Jim also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and St. Vincent DePaul and was a member of the Knights of Columbus #608. Jim enjoyed fishing, gardening and sports; especially the Chicago White Sox and Notre Dame.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, December 7, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass.
Friends may visit with the family from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Wake service will begin at 3:45.
