Obituary

Joan R. Kirian, 92, of McCutchenville, passed away Friday afternoon, December 4, 2020 at Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria.

On November 27, 1928 in Carey, Ohio she was born to Hilarian "Happy" and Ruth Mary (Coldiron) Haubert.  She married James "Jim" D. Kirian on May 3, 1952 in St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Frenchtown and spent her honeymoon at Yellowstone National Park.

Survivors include her children, sons, Leonard (Rita) Kirian of New Riegel; Kevin (Bernie) Kirian of Tiffin; Keith (Katrina) Kirian of Bloomville; daughters, Elaine (Dan) Borer of New Riegel; Jeanette (Duane) Nye of Alvada; Donna (Delbert) Morter of Sycamore; Darlene (Pat) Mack of Carey; sisters, Dorothy Preble of Fostoria; Helen Jean (Norbert) Kinn, Jr. of Alvada; Mary Louise (Carl) Collet of Carey; Theresa Reinhart of Alvada; 30 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim in 2015, son, Gerald Kirian in 2014, three brothers, Robert, Bernard and Donald Haubert and a sister, Virginia Lonsway.

Joan was a member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey and their Rosary Altar Society.  She graduated from New Riegel High School in 1946 and worked at General Electric and Autolite before raising her family. She enjoyed helping her husband on the family farm, traveling throughout the United States, Polka and Square dancing, playing BINGO, cards and her harmonica, singing with her sisters, and studying genealogy.  Joan was very social, never met a stranger and liked having a good time.  Her family meant everything to her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey with Rev. Thomas Merrill officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery in Frenchtown.

There will be a private visitation for family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local volunteer fire department or to the Our Lady of Consolation School.
