Joan I. "Jo" Bauders, 92, of Tiffin, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022.
She was born on November 12, 1930, in Republic, Ohio, to Arno R. and Louise E. (Derflinger) Hesse. She married Robert L. Bauders on November 26, 1950 and he died while in the Air Force on February 12, 1951.
Survivors include three nephews, Michael Young of Republic, Thomas Young of Lucasville and Steven (Cathy) Young of Grand Rapids, MI and Steven's children, Rebekah Young and Sean Young.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Doris Young; brother-in-law, Mike Young; and special friend, Verne Harding.
Jo worked for eleven years as a secretary and receptionist at NOBA in Tiffin and took several courses at Heidelberg University and graduated Cum Laude from Bowling Green State University. She was an elementary teacher for 28 years at Hopewell-Loudon School, retiring in 1988. She enjoyed "all her school children". She also taught Sunday School for ten years at the Methodist Church in Republic. She was a life-time member of Seneca County Retired Teachers and the Ohio Education Association, member and past president of the 1976 antique club, member of Tiffin's former Cotillion Club, Y-Wives and the Allen Eiry Senior Center.
After retiring, Jo enjoyed hunting for antiques, playing cards, watching the Cleveland Indians, dancing to big band music and traveling with her friends to Norway, Spain, Algiers, Mexico, Hawaii, Jamaica, Canada, Florida, Sheboygan, WI and many other states in the U.S.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veteran's National Foundation, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Humane Society of Seneca County, The Heart Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Her funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Pastor Charlene Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Service on Friday at the funeral home.
