Joanne M. Elchert, 85, of New Riegel, passed away Thursday evening, February 14, 2013 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

She was born on March 24, 1927, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Albert and Lillian Hoffman. On April 19, 1947, she married Cyril "Bud" H. Elchert.

Survivors include 2 sons, David (Patie) Elchert of Virginia Beach, VA and Gregg (Amy) Elchert of Clyde; daughter, Julie (Roger) Commager of Maumee; and 6 grandchildren, Adele, Amanda, Alexandra, Kreston, Colin and Kelsey.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bud; brother, Russell Hoffman; and 4 sisters, Mary Hart, Alice Huss, Norma DeMonte and Maxine Rumschlag.

Joanne graduated in 1945 from Tiffin Calvert High School as Class Valedictorian. She retired in 1994 after 25 years as a Postal Clerk in New Riegel. She was a member of All Saints Parish and taught CCD there for years. Joanne was a member of the Women of the Moose in New Riegel, was a supporter of St. Jude's Children Hospital and donated altars to seminarians made by her husband. She enjoyed traveling, going on cruises and taking bus trips and collecting antiques.

Her Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 18, 2013 at All Saints Parish in New Riegel with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery. A Rosary will be prayed 15 minutes prior to mass.

Friends may visit with the family from 1-5:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 and from 9:45-10:45 A.M. on Monday, February 18, 2013 at All Saints Parish. A Christian Wake service will begin at 4:45 P.M.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital or All Saints Parish.
