John C."Pete" Burns, 81, of Tiffin, passed away on Friday afternoon, April 3, 2015 at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.
He was born on November 23, 1933, in Tiffin to Alva and Sarah (Bowersox) Burns.
On November 8, 1958, he married Barbara A. Selvey and she preceded him in death on October 29, 2002.
Survivors include 6 sons, Ronald A. (Sandy) Burns of Tiffin, Richard A. ( Barbara) Burns of Chesterton, IN; John E. Burns of Fostoria; Robert E. (Darla) Burns, Keneth J. Burns and Brian D. Burns, all of Tiffin; 3 daughters, Beverly A. (Mark "Pooch") Kopp of Republic; Janet R. (Martin Coffman, Jr.) Agerter of Tiffin; Judith K. Burns of Port Clinton; 17 grandchildren, Five great grandchildren and one on the way, sister, Millie Drown of Green Springs; and a close friend and former son in law, Tate Agerter.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Clifford and James Burns, sisters, Margaret Brown, Lois and Laura Overmier.
He served in the United States Army, stationed at Fort McClellan, AL and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Pete worked at American Standard for over 39 years, retiring in 1993 and most recently was head mechanic at Tate's Chainsaw and Small Engine Shop. He was a member of Am Vets Post 48, VFW Post 2858 where he made many friends, volunteered at the Central Labor Union Hall and ran the Bratwurst Booth at the St. Mary Festival for years, enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie, playing softball and walking. Pete will be missed by his many friends and family, especially his grandchildren who he loved dearly.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass.
Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Friends may visit with the family from 3-8 P.M. on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Care or to a charity of the donor's choice.
