John L. Covert, 78, of Tiffin, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Tiffin Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on August 18, 1945, in Tiffin, to Louis and Alice (Masters) Covert. On June 27, 1970, he married Margaretta Steyer who preceded him in death after 51 years of marriage.
Survivors include his daughters, Rebecca (Michael) McBride of Piscataway, NJ, Crystal (Harry) Joseph of Findlay and Jennifer (Joe) Jordan of Tiffin; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Dyllan, Hailey, Cole, Kendalyn, Leyna and Matthew; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and his two sisters, Jackie Covert and JoAnn Ogg.
John graduated in 1963 from Old Fort High School and was a member of Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church and formerly of Faith United Methodist Church (Ebenezer). He was a truck driver for BP (formerly Sohio) for 30 plus years before retiring. John served in the Army Reserves from 1965 to 1971. He was a member and Worshipful Master of the Tiffin Masonic Lodge #77, Excellent High Priest Seneca Chapter #42, Illustrious Master Clinton Council #47, Eminent Commander DeMolay Commandery #9, Ohio Priory #18 and Knight York Cross of Honor.
Living History reenactment was John's passion. He had horses most of his life, participated in horse pulls and rodeos in his youth and loved to watch as many rodeos live or on TV as he could. He is now at peace with his beloved wife and dog, Shiloh.
His Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Pastor Gary Hicks and Pastor Virginia Park con-officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery (Egbert's).
Friends may visit with the family from 1-4:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. Masonic Services will begin at 4:00 P.M.
The family suggest flowers or memorial contributions to Southern Care Hospice or to a charity of the donor's choice.
