John Leonard Gottfried, 81, of Tiffin and previously of Clyde, passed away on Monday morning, December 8, 2014 at St. Francis Home.

He was born on February 16, 1933, in Eden Twp., to John H. and Rosetta R. (Lust) Gottfried. He married Grace E. Henderson and she preceded him in death. He later married Mary England and they later divorced and she survives in Tiffin.

Survivors include 3 sons, Dale (Kathy) Gottfried of Sylvania and Larry (Carol) Gottfried and Michael (Chrystal) Gottfried, both of Tiffin; 2 daughters, Tammy Herrig and Lynette (Steve) Swartzmiller, both of Tiffin; 12 grandchildren, Mandi Spy, Amber Drepps, Jason Gottfried, Jenna Alford, Melissa Freeborn, Stephanie Wooldridge, Gregory Herrig, Justin Gottfried, Emily Swartzmiller, Dustin Swartzmiller, Dillon Lynch and Cole Lynch ; and 12 great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Warren and Wilbert Gottfried; infant sister, Hazel Gottfried; and son-in-law, William Herrig.

John served in the United States Army Reserves and was honorably discharged on June 9, 1961. He lived in Clyde most of his life and in 1993 he retired from Whirlpool after 42 years. He enjoyed collecting antique John Deere and Farmall tractors, having coffee with his friends and loved his dog, Domino.

There will be no visitation and graveside services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Home or the Humane Society of Seneca County.
