John "Phil" Philip Dicken, 89, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday evening, June 9, 2016 at Bridge Hospice in Findlay.
On September 1, 1926 in Bettsville, he was born to Webb C. and Pearl P. (Mowery) Dicken. He married Evelyn Miller on June 21, 1947 and she preceded him in death in 1966. He later married Helen (Cochran) Norris on June 18, 1977 and she preceded him in death in 2010.
Survivors include his children, James (Penny) Dicken, Sandra (Jack) Reuter, and Barbara (Louie Aiello) Martz all of Tiffin; his step children, Sharon (Steve) Umphress of Mt. Blanchard, Sue (Rick) Jacox of Lexington, and Sandi Brown of Fostoria; 34 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, spouses, three brothers, Webb Dicken, Jr., Donald Dicken, Steve Dicken and a granddaughter, Evelyn Reuter.
Phil was a member and Elder at Blanchard River Church of Christ, Dunkirk and an honorary graduate of Bettsville High School. He left high school in 1943 to enlist during WWII in the U.S. Navy as a signalman, serving in the American, Asiatic, European and African Theatres. After his discharge, he worked for Zoller Casting, and retired from Tiffin Scenic Studios as a machinist. He continued to work as a consultant with Tiffin Scenic Studios for years. Phil enjoyed fishing, hunting, bird watching, crossword puzzles, reading, star-gazing and trips throughout the area taking in the Fall colors.
A Memorial service will be at the Blanchard River Church of Christ in Dunkirk on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 2:30 PM with Pastor Steve Umphress officiating. Phil gifted his body for anatomical research at the University of Toledo Medical Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association.
