Obituary

Joseph A. Granata, 94, of Tiffin, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at St. Francis Home.

He was born on May 02, 1931, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Vincent and Rose (Santoro) Granata.  On May 21, 1955, he married Eloise Wetzel.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Eloise Granata of Tiffin; sons, John C. (Karen) Granata of Tiffin, Thomas A. (Cindy) Granata of Springboro, Christopher J. Granata of Tiffin, Michael V. (Sandra) Granata of Charleston, WV and Joseph E. (Paula) Granata of Tiffin; daughter, Andrea D. (John) Carroll of Tiffin; eleven grandchildren; and one great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Anthony "Nini" Granata, Gordon Granata, Charles Granata, Salvatore Granata and an infant brother.

Joe graduated in 1949 from Tiffin Calvert High School.  After high school, he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1951-1955.  Joe was a supervisor at Whirlpool in Clyde.  He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus where he served as a 4th Degree Knight, Tiffin Lions Club and a lifetime member of Amvets Post 48.  He served on the Tiffin City Park Board, was president of the Chamber of Commerce and was 3rd Ward Councilman for the City of Tiffin for 18 years.  He also held a seat and served as past president of St. Mary School Board.  Joe also played a key role in the expansion of Tiffin University and helped create the Italian/American monument on their campus.  Joe took his love of sports one step further and filmed area school sporting events, which included the 1972 Heidelberg champions.  Joe spent many hours volunteering his time for many great causes and organizations around Seneca County.  He volunteered at Mercy Tiffin Hospital, at the St. Mary Festival, where he served as Chairperson and helped start up Bingo.  The money raised at Bingo helped support Catholic education in Tiffin.  Joe was instrumental in helping raise the money to light up Frost Parkway with Christmas decorations.  To escape the Ohio cold weather months, Joe and Eloise wintered in Florida for 20 years.  They also enjoyed traveling all around the World.  Joe was a Cleveland Browns and an Ohio State University fan.  Most importantly, Joe was devoted to his family, Church and community.

His Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday August 04, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew Rader officiating.  A Rosary will be prayed 30 minutes prior to Mass.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Friends may visit with the family from 3-6:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 03, 2025 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.  The 4th Degree will be doing an Honor Guard at the beginning of visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Francis Home or to Calvert Catholic Schools.
