Steininger, Sr.

Joseph E. "Joe" Steininger, Sr., 88, of Tiffin, passed away on Thursday evening, January 11, 2024 at Elmwood at the Shawhan.
He was born on December 16, 1935, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Joseph E. and Mercedes E. (McDonald) Steininger. On July 28, 1957, he married Janet Noble and she preceded him in death on June 02, 2020.
Survivors include his son, Joseph Steininger, Jr.; sisters, Muriel L. Colatruglio and Betty (Robert) McLaughlin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Joe was a 1953 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. He served in the United States Army from July 01, 1958 to May 29, 1961. After the service, he graduated from Tiffin University. He was co-owner of J&J Builders with Jeff Kuhn for many years. After retiring from J & J, he managed and ran Fairmont Cemetery. Joe was a Master Mason at Tiffin Lodge #77 and belonged to Zenobia Shrine, serving as an American Ambassador, Tiffin Shrine Club and was a past secretary of Tiffin Hornets. He was also a "roadrunner", driving patients and their families for Children's Hospital. He made two trips around the World helping Shrine children better their lives. Joe was member of Family of Faith Lutheran Church, AmVets Post 48, American Legion #169 and Tiffin Moose Lodge #846, served on the United Veterans Council and was active with the School of Opportunity. Joe enjoyed vacationing and going on cruises with his wife and son, Joey.
A Memorial Service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 02, 2024 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Pastor Philip Moerdyk officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery with Military Honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Friends may visit with the family from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to The School of Opportunity, Shriners Hospital for Children or to Family of Faith Lutheran Church.
