Joy Ellen Best, age 100, died on February 6, 2017 at St. Francis Home.

She was born in Michigan to Arthur and Ada (Beilman) Meyer. She attended Heidelberg University where she met Wilson Best. They were married in 1938 and were married for 67 years before he passed away in 2005.

Joy is survived by two daughters, Patricia Best of Columbus, Ohio and Joy Ada Best of North Palm Beach, Florida; brother, Arthur Meyer of Capac, Michigan; and sister, Kay St.Aubin of Fair Haven, Michigan.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Neil and Robert.

She was a devoted member of Trinity United Church of Christ and served on many committees including, Long Range Planning and Christian Education. She was a member of the Mother's Circle, Tuesday Sewing Group, Keenagers, Trinity Two-somes and Movie Review Night. Joy made banners for the sanctuary and taught 3rd and 4th graders in the Sunday School for many years.

Joy was a charter member of Y-Wives and T Squares, a board member of Weekday Religious Education and served on the board of the YMCA for 6 years. She belonged to the Heidelberg Fellows, Friends of the Library, Allen Eiry Senior Center and Clinton Heights Golf League. She delivered Meals on Wheels and was as aide at the Betty Jane pre-school.

Joy and her husband enjoyed traveling all 50 states, Canada, Europe and Morocco. She loved the ancient art of Tai Chi and taught classes at Saint Francis Home and Trinity United Church of Christ. In 2011, she was honored with the St. Clare of Assisi Award for her volunteer work at St. Francis home.

There will be no visitation or services at this time.

Memorial contributions can be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, Heidelberg University, or the Allen Eiry Senior Center.
