Katherine E. "Kate" Durso, 80, of Hillcrest Drive, died Monday morning, March 23, 2009 at her home.
On December 7, 1928 she was born in Bellevue, Ohio to the late James and Maria (LoPresti) LoParo. On October 22, 1955, she married Michael Durso at the Immaculate Conception Church in Bellevue.
Survivors include her husband Michael of 54 years, two daughters Susan (James) Burness of Dublin, Michelle (James) Spinella of Baldwinsville, N.Y., five granddaughters, Megan, Kylie, and Mackenzie Burness and Rachel and Nicole Spinella.
Preceding her in death are her parents, brother Carl LoParo, and sisters Marion Sidoti, Theresa Artino, and Caroline Nascone.
Kate was a 1946 graduate of Bellevue High School. She retired from Tiffin City Schools Food Service in 1991. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Mary Women's Choir and mixed choir for many years, and a 52 year member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 169. Kate was a mass coordinator, a Eucharistic minister and she was involved in the Cursillo movement. She was a team captain for St. Mary funeral lunch program. She Volunteered for many organizations around the community including, St. Francis Home Auxiliary, Sharing Kitchen, Meals on Wheels, Mercy Hospital, Allen Eiry Senior Center, and St. Mary Church and School. Kate enjoyed cooking, traveling and taking care of her family and her home.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 10am on Friday, March 27, 2009, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family 2-4 and 6-8pm on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 419-447-2424. A Christian wake service will be 1:45pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson Foundation of Northwest Ohio, St. Mary Church, Heartland Hospice, or a charity of the donor's choice.
