Leanne O. Wolff Langenderfer, 81, of Tiffin, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.
She was born on July 14, 1932, in Cromers, OH to George Orton and Edna (Rogers) Omwake. On June 19, 1955, at Shiloh Methodist Church in Cromers, Ohio, she married James R. Wolff and he preceded her in death on December 6, 1978. She married Paul H. Langenderfer on May 22, 1982, who preceded her in death on May 24, 2001.
Survivors include 2 sons, Matthew R. Wolff, MD of Cross Plains, WI and Wayne A. Wolff, JD of Walnut Creek, California; daughter, Rebecca Wolff of Washington, D.C.; 5 step-children, Glen, Gary, Mark and Donna Langenderfer and Doris Lucius; 7 grandchildren, Emily Wolff, Paige Wolff, Ryleigh Wolff, Erin Wolff, Alison Wolff, Sebastian Torti and Maximilian Torti; 6 step-grandchildren, Tim, Brian, Matthew, Eric, Beth and Traci Langenderfer, and 2 step-great grandchildren; brother, Roger Omwake, DVM of Onancock, VA; 2 sisters, Dorothy Cretcher of San Miguel, MX and Carol McCallion of Dallas, TX.
Leanne graduated from Heidelberg in 1954 with majors in biology and education. After graduation, she studied botany at The Ohio State University and earned master's and Ph.D. degrees in communication from Bowling Green State University.
She joined the Heidelberg faculty in 1963, retiring as professor emerita of communication in 1995. While at Heidelberg, she served as the forensics coach for 17 years and department chair of Communications and Theater Arts for 20 years. She developed programs in interpersonal and family communication, started the public relations major and served on the committee that created the award-winning Total Student Development program in the '70s. During her career, she was repeatedly recognized for excellence in her field.
As an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Leanne was a lay speaker, member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Women and board member of numerous church committees. Her years of dedicated service to the Ecumenical Sharing Kitchen included Chair of the Board from 1989 to 1998. As a charter member of the Tiffin Seneca League of Women Voters, she served on the board as both President and Co-President. Leanne was also a member of Sandusky Scenic River Advisory Committee from 1982 to 1999.
Leanne enjoyed gardening, barn photography, bird watching, book discussion groups and genealogy.
Her memorial service will be at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Rev. Hannah Tucker officiating. A private burial was held at Fairmont Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
