Obituary

Leo E. Gase, 81, of New Riegel, passed away on Thursday evening, December 4, 2014 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria.

He was born on May 2, 1933, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Leo A. and Pearl (Youngpeter) Gase. On October 28, 1961, in St. Mary Catholic Church in Clyde Ohio, he married Dolores S. Alcala.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores; 2 sons, Michael (Deanne) Gase of Wixom, MI and Chris (Deb) Gase of Galion; 2 daughters, Julie Goodman of Perrysburg and MaryAnn (Roger) Nye of New Riegel; brother Harold (Bernice) Gase; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Leo graduated in 1951 from McCutchenville High School and served in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne Division from June 1, 1951 to May 31, 1954. After the service, he was a press operator for over 30 years at General Electric; retiring in 1985 and farmed the family farm and raised livestock. He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Nicholas Chapel in Frenchtown and the New Riegel Legion Post #354. Leo was a Detroit Tigers, NASCAR and Ryan Newman fan and in his early days raced sprint cars at local dirt tracks. He also enjoyed meeting his friends at Plank Road Tavern every morning for coffee and loved chocolate.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at All Saints Parish, St. Nicholas Chapel, Frenchtown with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in All Saints Parish, St. Nicholas Chapel Cemetery, Frenchtown with military honors being conducted by the New Riegel Legion Post #354.

Friends may visit with the family from 2-8:00 P.M. on Monday, December 8, 2014 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian Wake Service will begin at 1:30 P.M. and the New Riegel American Legion Post #354 will conduct a service at 7:45 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Parish, St. Nicholas Chapel, Frenchtown or Good Shepherd Home.
