Leslie H. Bowman, Sr., 84, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday morning, April 7, 2011 at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center.

On June 16, 1926 in Trenton, MI; he was born to Glenn and Rose Bowman. He married Barbara J. Mackey on April 16, 1948 in Angola, IN.

Survivors include 3 sons, Leslie H. (Ruth) Bowman Jr. of Tiffin; Edward J. (Martha) Bowman of Clyde; Robert S. (Carol) Bowman of Tiffin; 2 daughters, Susan (Mike) Trump and Catherine Welly both of Columbus; 2 brothers, Richard and Ralph, 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Glenn Jr., Bill and Jack Bowman, daughter, Donna Jean Bowman and grandson, James Bowman.

Les was a long time mechanic, restorer and collector of vintage cars.

In 1972, along with his wife Barbara, they founded the Daytona-Superbird Auto Club, which later became a national club. He also raced stockcars at area NASCAR tracks. He raced Midgets, Sprints, and Sportsman cars, including the "Ramsonic Six". In the 1950's through the 1960's, he won many races in the surrounding states, including Attica, Fremont, Findlay, Lancaster, Mt. Clemens, New Breman, and Flat Rock. Les helped build and race the Super Stock drag car the "Mighty Mayflower." His last race was in the "Great American Race" from Los Angeles, CA to Indianapolis, IN; in an Antique car in 1984. Les was known as Mr. Mopar for his knowledge of Chrysler cars.

Graveside services will be Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 10:00 am at Greenlawn Cemetery.
