Leslie A. Hunker, 71, of Tiffin passed away after a long battle with cancer on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
She was born in Dearborn, MI on February 19, 1955 to the late Gerald (Donald) VanRenterghem and Marlene (Hudson) VanRenterghem. Leslie married Ronald G. Hunker on July 11, 1987.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald G. Hunker of Tiffin; five children and one step-son, Cara (Jason) Clarkson of Tiffin, Brice Kauffman of Cleveland, Patrick Smith of Findlay, Melinda (Mitch) Distel of Tiffin, Katie (Clay) Hoffman of Bettsville and Derek (Heather) Hunker of Tiffin. Leslie also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Rylan, Jacob, Adalyn, Kelsi, Lynsey, Ryley, Clair and Griffin; and three brothers, Eric (Jane) VanRenterghem, Brad (Melanie) VanRenteghem and Charles (Johanna) VanRenterghem; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Leslie retired from Legacy Farmers Cooperative and when time allowed she loved helping her husband on their farm or in their garden. She loved traveling, was an avid reader and spent hours enjoying crafting. If you didn’t find her on the back porch enjoying the weather, in her yard working in her countless gardens, or in the Amish Country; you would be able to find her at various sports and music events for her grandchildren. Leslie also had served as a school board member for ten years at Bettsville Local Schools, was the PTO president, volunteered in her children’s classrooms, and was a volunteer for the afterschool reading program. She also was the first female Webelo Leader in the district serving in that role for five years, and was the little league coach for four years. Leslie competed for six years in the Master Gardening competition at the Seneca County Jr. Fair, winning various awards. Leslie was an outgoing and loyal friend. She was always eager to volunteer or lend a hand to help someone in need. Anyone who met her never left a stranger.
