Lester Charles Huth, 85 of Tiffin, died peacefully surrounded by his family and friends, Monday morning, December 14, 2009 at his daughter and son-in-law's home in Tiffin.
On November 21, 1924, he was born in Tiffin to George L. and Helen (Turner) Huth. On October 23, 1954, he married Mary Ann Zablocki in St. Mary Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, Timothy Huth of Ann Arbor, MI; John (Carolyn Campfield) Huth of Prescott, WI; a daughter, Ann (Douglas) Huth-Fretz of Tiffin; Four grandchildren, Ian, Stasia, and Mikaela Huth-Fretz, Lili Campfield-Huth, brother, Jim Huth of Toledo; and a sister, Jane Hoebich of FL.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary Ann, his parents, brother, Don Huth, infant grandchildren, Ethan and Arianna Huth-Fretz, son Tim's partner, Keary Campbell.
Lester was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Mary Catholic Church Choir, Lector, Communion Distributor and a 1942 graduate of St. Wendelin High School. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945 earning five Battle Stars. Lester was part of the second wave onto Normandy Beach before advancing through Europe. After his discharge, he received his B.S. degree from John Carroll University and his law degree and Honorary Doctorate from Notre Dame.
He opened his private law practice in Fostoria in 1954 and retired after 40 years. In Fostoria, he served as City Solicitor, Law Director; for 2 terms, Service Director, and as Seneca County Juvenile Court Magistrate, retiring in 2008.
Lester and his wife, Mary Ann were Foster parents to many children over the years. He volunteered at Community Hospice Care, Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, Caring Hands Pregnancy Center in Fostoria, and Meals on Wheels.
He was a member of VFW Post 2858 and 4th Degree life member of Fostoria K of C.
Lester will be remembered as a hardworking sincere person who put family first. He lived a full life and had a positive influence on anyone who met him. "I wish everyone was as lucky as I was."
A Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin with Rev. Gary Walters officiating and Rev. Kieran Kay as con-celebrant. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors conducted by the United Veterans Council. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to mass at the church.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St. 419-447-2424. The 4th Degree Honor Guard will be present from 6-8 PM. A Wake service will start at 7:30 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Seneca County Humane Society, Caring Hands Pregnancy Center in Fostoria and Children's Home and Family Services Society of America (chsfs.org).
