Obituary

Lewis J. Fanning, 85, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday morning, June 1, 2014 at Wild Wings Campground in Oak Harbor.

He was born on September 18, 1928, in Brattleboro, Vermont, to Stanley and Georgiana (Groesbeck) Fanning. On July 15, 1951, in Brattleboro, VT, he married Barbara T. Torrey and she preceded him in death in 2001.

Survivors include his twin sons, Barrett L. (Lois) Fanning of St. Joseph, MI and Brett M. Fanning of Tiffin; brother, David Fanning of St. Petersburg, FL; sister, Gail Belville of St. Petersburg, FL; 3 grandchildren, Gabriel, Craig and Tyler; 6 great grandchildren, Michael, Ashton, Chloe, Natalie, Bailey and Allison; and 1 great grandchild on the way.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Lewis graduated from Brattleboro High School in Vermont and worked as a conductor and brakeman for Norfolk & Western Railroad. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. Lewis was a member of the Tiffin Lions Club and enjoyed fishing with his friends, Dean Distel and Jack Houck.

His funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Pastor Rex King officiating. There will be no burial at this time.

Friends may visit with the family from 10 A.M. until the time of service on Saturday.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
