Obituary

Marian Audrey Applequist, 92, of Tiffin, passed away Friday afternoon, October 28, 2016 at St, Francis Home.

On February 10, 1924 in Jamestown, NY, she was born to Carl Harry and Emma Victoria (Olson) Swan. She married H. Duane Applequist on September 9, 1944 and he preceded her in death in 2014.

Survivors include her children, Michael Duane (Cathy) Applequist of Goose Creek, SC and Barbara Ann (Paul) Aley of Tiffin; sisters, Helen Gustafson of Jamestown and Florence Carlson of Boardman, OH; sisters-in-law, Martha Swan and Elsie Swan; seven grandchildren, Jonathan (Sarah) Aley, Karilyn (Ray) Meeker, Owen T. Applequist, Miki S. Applequist, Lee M. Applequist, Philip (Jennifer) Beckley and Erica (John) Stasiek; thirteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy Noyd; brothers, Floyd Swan and Duane Swan; and infant granddaughter, Emily Applequist.

Marion was a 1942 graduate of Jamestown High School and during World War II, she worked for the U.S. Army Air Corp. as a Stenographer in Buffalo and Jamestown. Prior to moving to Tiffin in 1991, Marian had sung in church choirs for 50 years beginning in high school and she taught Sunday school for nearly as many years. When Duane and Marian moved to Tiffin, they were active at Trinity United Church of Christ, members of Trinity's Keenagers, delivered meals through Mercy Hospital's Meals on Wheels, served at the sharing kitchen, traveled on many Allen Eiry trips and enjoyed activities there, and were members of Friends at the Library. They enjoyed being part of and supporting many community activities.

Marian was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Trinity Keenagers, St. Francis Auxiliary and Tiffin Y-Wives, where she was honored as Y-Wife of the Year in 2007. She enjoyed baking, knitting, cross-stitch, gardening, reading, having friends over for a meal or coffee and above all her family. God rest her soul.

Our family would like to thank Comfort Keepers and St. Francis Home for their compassionate and excellent care and support of both of our parents these past years. Your care was a blessing to them and to us.

A Memorial service will be at 2:30 P.M. on Friday, November 25, 2016 at Trinity United Church of Christ with Rev. Kurt Schaller Blaufuss officiating.

Friends may visit with the family from 1:30 until the time of the service on Friday, November 25, 2016 at the church.
