Marilyn K. "Sue" Shaferly, 84, of Tiffin, passed away Friday evening, June 11, 2021, at Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital.

On January 20, 1937, in Tiffin, she was born to Edward and Lorena (Crist) Swope.  She married Larry L. Shaferly on October 25, 1958, and he preceded her in death on November 7, 2019.

Survivors include her sons; Daniel (Donna) Shaferly of Tiffin; Jeff (Dawn) Shaferly of Toledo; daughters, Teresa (Paul) Jones of Tiffin; Debora (Jeff) Hammer of Fostoria; 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and her dog, Hans.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Ed Swope, Richard Swope, Bobby Swope, an infant brother and sisters, Ruth Gerber and Mildred Schoen.

Sue was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a 1955 graduate of Tiffin Calvert and continued her education at the Mercy School of Nursing.  As a Registered Nurse, she began working at Mercy Hospital in Tiffin, for Dr. Schroeder for 25 years and retired from St. Francis Home in 2002.  Sue loved gardening, painting crafts, reading, vacationing around the United States and raising Golden Retrievers and Alaskan Malamute dogs, along with her husband at Sunny Hill Kennel for years.  She helped start the Moosketer Baton and Drum Corp where she was active for many years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.  The Mass can be viewed at www.tiffinstjoseph.org.

Friends may visit and share stories with the family on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, from 4-7 PM at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Francis Home, or to the Humane Society of Seneca County.
