Obituary

Martha M. Spence, 88, of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday morning, May 22, 2012.

She was born on January 5, 1924, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Edward and Helen (Hildebrand) Morrissey. On March 2, 1946, in Flint Michigan, she married Paul G. Spence.

Survivors include daughter, Paula (Allan Lucius) Spence, of Tiffin, OH; three sons, Mark D. (Suzanna) Spence of Ocean Grove, NJ, Timothy E (Uta Melzer) of Brussels, Belgium and Jeffrey B. (Barbara) Spence of Gahanna, OH; and one granddaughter, Madelene Spence of Nutley, NJ.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Paul; brothers, James Morrissey and Lieutenant Colonel Robert Morrissey; missing in action, and infant brother, Richard Morrissey; and an infant sister, Anne Morrissey.

Martha graduated from Flint Central High School in 1942 and attended The Ohio State University and Heidelberg College. She received several certifications from the Ohio Youth Commission. Martha was a probation officer for the Seneca County Juvenile Court, a rehabilitation counselor for the State of Ohio, Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation and was a client protective services representative for the State of Ohio, division of mental retardation and developmental disabilities. She retired in 1991, as the director of case management services for the Seneca County Opportunity Center. Martha was a gourmet cook and enjoyed reading. She also enjoyed decorating her historic home.

There will be a private graveside service at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice, Humane Society of Seneca County or an animal rescue agency of the donor's choice.
