Obituary

Martin R. "Uncle Marty" Welly, 78, of New Riegel, passed away Wednesday morning, November 12, 2014 at his home.

He was born on March 19, 1936, in Seneca County, to Jacob F. and Mary Ann (Tiell) Welly. On April 27, 1957, in St. Boniface Parish in New Riegel, he married Clara Kimmet

Survivors include his wife, Clara; 3 sons, Mike Welly of Dayton and Mark (Wendy) Welly and Marvin (Kristin) Welly, both of New Riegel; 2 daughters, Cathy (Dan) Spero and Carol (Jim) Snyder, both of New Riegel; 2 brothers, John (Marilyn) Welly and Joseph (Mary Ann) Welly, both of Tiffin; 3 sisters, Florence Reinhart and Lila Mae (Richard) Faber, both of Tiffin and Mary (F.C.) Reineck of Rising Sun; sister-in-law, Viola Welly of Tiffin; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 daughters, Cindy Brown in 2004 and infant daughter, Crissy in 1970; brother, Charles Welly; and 2 sisters, Mathilda Gerschutz and Louise Mackling.

Martin served in the United States Army, where he was on ski patrol in Alaska for 18 months. He was honorably discharged on May 4, 1956. In 1988, after 30 years, Martin retired from Basic Refractories and was a volunteer firefighter for many years. After retirement, he worked as a supervisor for Alvada Construction for 10 years. He was a member of All Saints Parish, the New Riegel American Legion Post #354 and the Knights of Columbus #608. Martin and Clara enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and many foreign countries. For many years, Marty and Clara grew Job's Tears in their garden to make Rosaries. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, making birdhouses with his grandchildren and helping the neighborhood kids build pinewood derby cars. He was very helpful to everyone.

Friends may visit with the family from 1-8:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. The New Riegel American Legion will do a walk through at 7:45 P.M. A Christian Wake Service will begin at 8:00 P.M.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 17, 2014 at All Saints Parish, New Riegel, with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. The Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the New Riegel American Legion Post #354.

Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Parish, New Riegel, Community Hospice Care or to New Riegel EMS.
