Mary L. Grillot, 96 of St. Francis Home in Tiffin, died Friday February 1, 2008 at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

On June 7, 1911 in Berwick, OH she was born to Herve and Aleta (Hummer) Lonsway. She married Alvin B. Grillot on May 1, 1936.

Survivors include 4 daughters, Aleta (Robert) Looker of Cheshire, CT; Angela (Pasquale) Patuto of Tiffin; Jane (Michael) McCurdy of Dallas, TX; Henrietta (Charles) Brandt of Genoa, NV; 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Alvin in 1963, son, Jerome Grillot, brothers, Herman, Homer, and Charles Lonsway and a sister, Agnes Buxton.

Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, graduate of McCutchenville High School in 1927, Bachelor's Degree from Kent State University in 1935 and Master's Degree from Bowling Green State University in 1966. Her teaching career started in Big Spring Twp. For 7 years, and retired from the Tiffin Public School System after 20 years. Mary was very active and past president of the League of Women Voters, American Association of University Women, Toledo Diocese of Catholic Women, St. Joseph Rosary Altar Society, Sandusky Valley Mental Health Association and volunteered many hours with Habitat for Humanity and Community Hospice Care. While living in California, she received the Medal of Honor from the Los Angeles Arch Diocese of Catholic Women.

A Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, February 8, 2008 at 10:00 Am at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed prior to mass at 9:45 AM. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, February 7, 2008 from 4-8 PM at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home 419-447-2424.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tiffin Charitable Fund, Seneca County Park Board, St. Joseph Library Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice.
