IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary M.
(Holmes) Kirchner
July 24, 1934 – May 27, 2024
Mary Maureen "Mo" Holmes Kirchner, 89, made her peaceful transition to eternal life at Good Shepherd Home (Fostoria) on Monday, May 27, 2024, and was reunited with the love of her life, Keith L. Kirchner, who passed away in December of 2022. Maureen's family was with her in her final days and as she made her transition.
She was born in St. Helen's, England, on July 24, 1934, to John Wilson and Florence Holmes, and she lived there until she married Keith and moved to the United States when his military service was completed.
She is survived by her son Keith (Maria) Kirchner of Tiffin and daughters Lynn (Rich) Zeis, Karen (Mike) Shaffer-Burlile, Lori (Jeff) Thompson, and Lisa Kirchner, all of Tiffin. She had 10 grandchildren: Nic Zeis, Brad Shaffer, Erin Shaffer, Erica Moyer, Josh Carter, Megan Fiorello, Alexandra Chiarappa, Corey Thompson, Jared Thompson, and Claire Thompson, and 17 great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild currently on the way. She is also survived by her brother Jackie Holmes, who lives in England with his family, and many nieces and nephews in the US and England.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister Monica, and siblings Flo Wilding, Austin Holmes, and Colin Holmes.
She met USAF Staff Sergeant Keith L. Kirchner when they both worked at Burtonwood US Air Force Base in St. Helen's England, and they were married in 1956, where their first child, Lynn, was born. They all returned to Tiffin, Ohio, where Keith was born and raised, and where they added Karen, Lori, Keith, and Lisa to their family.
Keith and Maureen were the best of friends and true soul mates for life, and they had over six decades together, as Keith passed away two days shy of their 66th Anniversary. Family was everything to Mo, and if you knew Mo, you also knew her to be one of the kindest individuals you could ever meet.
Maureen became a United States citizen in 1973, and she loved both her homeland and her adopted land. She was an avid follower of politics and was a Member of the League of Women Voters. Additionally, she faithfully worked at the voting polls for many years to do her part for democracy. She also enjoyed being a member of the Red Hats Club and Sierra Club for several years, and she and Keith were members of St. Joseph Catholic of Tiffin.
She was an original Do It Yourself project homemaker, and she was extremely skilled in decorating, wallpapering, sewing, cooking, and gardening. Outside of the home, she did tailoring for a men's suit shop. Additionally, she worked for the Department of Motor Vehicles, and she worked for Victim's Assistance for a number of years before retiring.
She will be deeply missed by her family. She will also be missed by her Good Shepherd Family, who gave love and wonderful care to her throughout her time at Good Shepherd.
