IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Jane
(Leiner) Jones
August 23, 1933 – November 29, 2023
Mary Jane Leiner Schulz Jones passed away at the age of 90 on November 29, 2023, in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Jane was born on August 23, 1933, in Tiffin, Ohio, the youngest daughter of Karl and Ernestine (Miller) Leiner. Her mother was a talented pianist, and her father was the owner of Leiner and Son Menswear in Tiffin, a fifth-generation family store established in 1852.
As a teenager, Jane attended Interlochen National Music Camp in northern Michigan where she developed a lifelong appreciation for the arts, especially music and dance. Jane graduated from Columbian High School and Heidelberg College.
In 1956, she married Larold Schulz and moved to Chicago where sons Karl and Keith were born. They later moved to Fontana, Wisconsin and then White Plains, New York., where daughter Karen was born.
In 1979, the family moved to Billings, Montana where Jane lived for 35 years. After working as the manager of the Wise Penny and the Executive Director of the Montana Arthritis Foundation, Jane became the office manager for the Fox Theater Corporation in 1983.
After the theater's renovation, Jane was selected to be the first House and Ticket Office Manager of the Alberta Bair Theater (ABT), responsible for all house and ticket office operations.
She was most proud of the ABT volunteer Corps, and she valued the many friends who were part of that group. One of the volunteers, Don Jones, became her husband in 1996. Jane was active in a number of volunteer organizations during her life including the League of Women Voters, the Special K Ranch, the Gateway House, the bellissimo! Handbell choir, and the various churches she belonged to.
In 1988 she was selected to be a YWCA Salute to Women honoree. After her retirement from the ABT, she and Don spent their time traveling, playing golf, attending the rodeo, and visiting their children and grandchildren.
Jane was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan. While Jane loved living in Billings, she also treasured the time spent every summer at her family's cottage in Lakeside Ohio, first as a child with her family and then throughout her life.
As a teenager, she became a very good shuffleboard player and later in life loved playing with any grandchild or friend who was visiting at the time.
Following the death of her husband Don, Jane moved to Scottsdale in 2015 where she lived with daughter Karen and son-in-law Ray. She loved to walk her neighborhood, watch for birds, pick flowers and introduce herself to every dog she passed.
Unfortunately, Jane's struggle with Alzheimer's affected her ability to speak but it did not keep her from dancing when music inspired her.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents and brother Charles Leiner and sisters Carolyn Bage and Suzanne Jackson.
Jane is survived by her children Karl Schulz and his wife Jennifer, Keith Schulz and his wife Laura, Karen Thomas and her husband Ray and grandchildren Keenan, Steffen, Anya, Alexandra, Lisa, Patti, and five great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Trinity United Church of Christ, 131 E. Perry St, Tiffin, Ohio 44883, August 05, 2024 at 11:00 A.M.
Her burial will take place at 10:00 A.M. at Greenlawn Cemetery, 895 E County Rd 36, Tiffin, Ohio 44883.
