Mary D. Lykens, 97, of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday morning, January 5, 2016 at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center.
She was born on March 19, 1918, in New Riegel, Ohio, to Jacob and Margaret (Thom) Borer. On September 26, 1936, she married Richard Lykens and he preceded her in death. She later married Walter V. Aubrey and he also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son, D. Richard (Theresa) Lykens of Tiffin; Nanny to six grandchildren, Steven, Kevin, Jason, Josette, Gina and Jason; Nanny to 13 great grandchildren; Nanny to 2 great, great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jacqueline Gallagher; granddaughter, Kristen Lykens; seven brothers, Carl, Florian, Nickolas, George, Albert, Frank and Jake; and seven sisters, Josephine, Catherine, Geraldine, Corrine, Margaret, Lucille, and infant twin sister, Anna Dorothy.
Mary graduated from New Riegel High School in 1936 and was a nurse's aide at St. Francis Rehabilitation Center in Green Springs for over 18 years. Growing up, Mary helped on the family farm in Melmore and Pennsylvania. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews sporting events, donated gallons of blood to the Red Cross and loved riding motorcycles, even after falling off one at the age of ninety. Mary was the life of the party, fun loving, positive and always found the good in everyone.
Her Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 8, 2016 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Sister Barbara Jean Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Union Cemetery, Old Fort, Ohio.
Friends may visit with the family from 4-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center, American Red Cross or to a charity of the donor's choice.
