Mary E. Lucius, 58, of Tiffin and formerly of Fostoria, passed away Sunday morning, August 7, 2022, at her home after a courageous and selfless battle with cancer and other chronic health issues.
She was born on February 21, 1964, in Tiffin, Ohio to Thomas L. and Anna Marie (Kimmet) Schumm. She married Donald Lucius on October 15, 1988.
Survivors include her mother, Anna Marie Schumm of Tiffin; husband of 33 years, Donald Lucius of Tiffin; daughter, Brianna Lucius of Findlay; son, Aaron (Alexis Hohman) Lucius of Minneapolis, MN; sister, Margaret (Philip) Steyer of Tiffin; brother, Tony (Sherri) Schumm of Radnor; her dog, Sophie, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mary was a member of All Saints Parish, New Riegel. She was passionate about her faith and family. Mary graduated in 1982 from Tiffin Calvert High School. She graduated from Miami University of Ohio with a degree in accounting and worked several years before realizing that elementary education was her passion. She then graduated from the University of Findlay earning her master's degree in education. Mary taught almost 20 years at Hopewell-Loudon Elementary School, teaching kindergarten and first grade students. She was a caring and dedicated teacher who had a positive impact on many young lives. In addition to many school committees, she was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa teacher sorority. Mary was a fighter, continuing to teach and help others throughout her health issues.
Mary was kind, loving, and an inspiration and friend to everyone she met. She enjoyed camping at Ohio state parks, vacations, family game nights, cookouts, and holidays with family. She cherished the support from the Hopewell-Loudon community, friends, and family over the years.
Her Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, August 12, 2022, at All Saints Parish, New Riegel, with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. Mass will also be livestreamed at allsaints-parish.com. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, New Riegel.
Friends may visit with the family from 3:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell-Loudon School Library Fund, FACT of Seneca County, and to the All Saints Parish, New Riegel.
