Mary Jane Swinehart, 93, formerly of Tiffin, died Thursday morning, February 5, 2009, at Home Reach Hospice, Kobacker House, Columbus.
She was born April 17, 1915 in North Jackson to George G. and Oneita (Bunts) Ewing. December 18, 1936 she married Rev. Scott A. Swinehart in North Jackson.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret 'Peg' (David) Baker of Tiffin, Joan (Ralph) Talmage of Columbus; a sister, Martha June (Wib) Justi of Columbus; 7 grandchildren: Sarah (Eric) Jome of Bloomington, IL; Mark (Patsy) Baker of Eaton Rapids, MI; Susan (Robert) Cramer of Platteville, WI; Daniel (Shannon) Talmage of Marysville; Scott Talmage of Columbus; Todd (fiancAC. Kate Friess) Swinehart of San Diego, CA; and Stephen (Brandi Ogden) Swinehart of Allen Park, MI. There are 7 great-grandchildren: Bergen and Brian Jome; Robert and Bailey Baker; Margaret 'Maggie', Thomas and John Cramer.
Preceding her in death along with her parents and husband, Scott on December 30, 2002, is a son, Rev. S. David Swinehart; and two brothers, Lorin J. and Robert A. Ewing.
Mary Jane was a graduate of North Jackson High School and State University of New York at Brockport. She taught at Holley Central School and Cato-Meridian Central School in New York State. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital, Community Hospice Care, and Seneca Habitat for Humanity where she was a founding member. She lived at First Community Village in Columbus for over 10 years.
A Memorial Service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Sanders Center at The Burkhart, 1802 Riverside Dr., Columbus, with Pastor Jack Witherspoon officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Wooster Cemetery, Wooster.
Friends may visit with the family one-half hour prior to the service at Sanders Center at The Burkhart.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Mary Jane's favorite charities: Habitat for Humanity, Community Hospice Care, Heidelberg University or First Presbyterian Church.
