December 5, 1944 – December 26, 2022
Max E. "Pete" Miles, 78, of Spartanburg, SC and formerly of Tiffin, passed away Monday morning, December 26, 2022, at his home.
He was born on December 5, 1944, in Gallipolis, Ohio, to Edward and Betty (Shamblin) Miles. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Steinmetz, and she preceded him in death. He then married Sheri Barthel on April 29, 2016, and she survives in Spartanburg.
Survivors include his wife, Sheri; daughters, Jenni (Rodney) Clinger of Upper Sandusky and Jacki (Bryan) Roper of Pickens, SC; stepsons, B.J. (Kay) Kelly, Justin Kelly and Logan Morey, all of Spartanburg, SC; stepdaughter, Amanda Kelly of Spartanburg, SC; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and sisters, Sue Hedrick of Bascom and Barbara (David) Hartsel of Tiffn.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a grandchild, Myles Roper and sister, Rose Bugner.
Max was a graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School. After high school, Max served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on September 23, 1966. He worked at Allied in Fostoria for 25 years and in 1989 moved to South Carolina. He was a member of the V.F.W. POST #9539 in South Carolina and the Sycamore Legion Post #250. Max enjoyed making Neon signs, golfing, traveling the World, casino trips and was an OSU football fan.
Visitation will be private. A graveside service will be at 12:00 Noon on Monday, January 2, 2023 in Sandridge Cemetery with Pastor Jesse Caro officiating. Military honors are being conducted by the Sycamore Veterans.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
