Obituary

May Genet, 92, of Tiffin, passed away Monday afternoon, February 7, 2011 at St. Francis Home.

On October 28, 1918 in Delaware County, IN she was born to Carl and Kate (Hensley) Furnish. She married Charles E. Genet September 9, 1945 at her parent's home.

Survivors include her sons, Ray (Mary Ann) Genet of Louisville, KY; Steven (Fran) Genet of Tiffin; grandchildren, Laurie (Matt) Genet-Preston, David (Jaclyn) Genet, Michael Genet, Keith Genet, Stephanie (Ian) Genet-Kinkley, Craig Genet, Catherine Genet, 3 great grandchildren, sister in law Ruth Pyle a niece, Michele Pyle and a nephew, Robert Furnish.

May was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1996 after 51 years of marriage, son, Philip Genet, and a brother, Paul Furnish.

As an infant, the family moved to Albany, IN and later to Muncie where her father Carl established a home construction firm and May attended and graduated from Burris Laboratory School. She continued her education and graduated from Ball State Teacher's College with a BS in Education. While at Ball State, she met Charles Genet. Their plans to marry following his graduation were delayed by the onset of WWII. During his 3 A½ years of service, May taught Home Economics and Science at a rural Indiana high school while they corresponded daily.

Upon his return, they were married, moved to New Albany, IN and started a family. Together they enjoyed square dancing, flower and vegetable gardening, family vacations, and raising several generations of English Bulldogs. They retired in 1977 to enjoy hobbies, family, travel and grandchildren. May left Indiana in 2006 to reside close to her son's family.

Services will be Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 10:00 am at Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, IN where burial will follow next to her husband.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9-10 am at Kraft Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of St. Francis Home for their kind and loving care. They would also like to thank the Sisters of St. Francis, St. Joseph Parishioners and their extended family for all of their prayers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charles and May Genet Technology Fund #1021; c/o Office of University Development, Ball State University, Muncie, IN 47306; Community Hospice Care or Calvert Catholic Schools Library Fund.
