Mike "Murph" Murphy, 70, of Tiffin, passed away on Tuesday morning, December 24, 2013 at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center.
He was born on September 1, 1943, in Tiffin, Ohio to Robert and Vernice (Martin) Murphy. On May 6, 1967 in St. Mary Catholic Church, he married Dorothy Mitchell and she preceded him in death on November 26, 2005.
Survivors include his daughter, Pamela Murphy of Tiffin; grandchildren, Jaylen and Bishop Florence; 5 brothers, Patrick (Candace) Murphy, Tim Murphy, Fred Murphy and Ned (Patti Hess) Murphy, all of Tiffin and Ted (Patricia Duty) Murphy of Jacksonville, FL; 2 sisters, Kathy Burgderfer of Tiffin; Jackie (Jim) Jacoby, of Melmore; and sister-in-law, Ruth Bissel of New Castle, CA.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Jerry Burgderfer.
Mike was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and graduated in 1961 from Tiffin Calvert High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1965. Mike was a Carpenter with The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 2239 in Fremont working in various nuclear power plants around the area. Murph enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping at Lake Erie, laughing, traveling and playing Poker with family and friends. Most of all, he was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and brother. He was a member of Tiffin AMVETS Post 48, VFW Post 2858, Tiffin Moose 846 and Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 402 in Tiffin.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery with the United Veterans Council conducting military honors. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.
Friends may visit with the family from 3-8:00 P.M. on Friday, December 27, 2013 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
