Obituary

Mildred R. Gillig, 86, of New Riegel, died Sunday afternoon, September 7, 2008, at her home.

On March 4, 1922, she was born in Big Spring Township to Oscar and Rosella (Peters) Elchert. She married Elmer A. Gillig on January 10, 1942.

Survivors include 4 sons, Jerry (Patty) Gillig of McCutchenville, Larry (Laurie) Gillig of New Riegel, Glenn (Val) Gillig of Tiffin, Gary (Robin Kauffman) Gillig of Alvada, three daughters, Patty (Bob) Schilling of Tiffin, Darlene (Fred) Smith of Fostoria, Sharon (Ralph) Weber of Tiffin, a sister, Edna 'Honey' (Donald) Nye of New Riegel, 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, one expected great-grandson and a son in law, Jim Ferstler of Tiffin.

Preceding her in death along with her parents and husband, Elmer, on December 28, 1982, is a daughter, Joyce Ferstler, two brothers, Urban and Cletus Elchert, a sister, Josephine Theis and a grandson, Shawn Weber in 2002.

Mildred was a 1940 graduate of New Riegel High School and a faithful member of All Saints Parish, New Riegel, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and attended every first Friday and First Saturday mass for the past 47 years. She farmed with her husband, raising chickens and selling eggs, and continued to farm even after he passed away. She taught CCD for many years and was member of Seneca County Pheasants Forever. She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking and attending church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, September 12, 2008, at All Saints Parish, New Riegel with Rev. Randy Giesige officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 15 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family 1-8 PM, Thursday, September 11, 2008, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH, 44883, 419-447-2424.

Memorial contributions can be made to All Saints Parish, New Riegel, Seneca County Pheasants Forever or F.A.C.T.
